MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL

Dear Cedar Creek Elementary Families,

Our CCE students had the opportunity to watch a powerful performance from the Westlake High School Advanced theatre classes yesterday!  Ms. Yanchak, the WHS theatre teacher, along with her students created plays specific for Kindergarten-2nd grade on Empathy and Accepting Differences/No Bullying for grades 3-5.  Not only were these exceptional performances, they tie in nicely with our initiative to promote Social-Emotional Learning and build a nice connection between elementary and high school!  Students had the chance to ask and answer questions with the WHS students as well, and I appreciated how well our CCE students behaved, and how the WHS students served as positive role models!

The annual read-a-thon is a valuable tradition at Cedar Creek Elementary. Students will be raising money for BookSpring, which buys books for students in need right here in Austin. Please look in your Thursday folder for the blue reading log and small white pledge envelope for specific details. You can also watch a video about why the BookSpring Read-A-Thon is so important on the library webpage (ccelibrary.weebly.com).

Reminders:

Visitor Stickers - please remember that if you are staying on campus after the Friday assembly you must go into the front office to print a visitor badge.  This is part of our safety initiative to monitor all visitors in our building.

Lunch Visitors - please remember that all visitors are asked to eat lunch at the back table in the cafeteria.  This allows for special time with your child, protects students who have food allergies and protects the confidentiality of other students. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.

Staying Healthy - we are seeing an increase in illnesses (GI symptoms, Strep Throat and Flu). We ask that you please remember to keep your student home until: 1) fever- free 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medicine 2) tolerate solid food & fluids for a full 24 hour period without vomiting. Please encourage your students to wash their hands and to cover their mouths when coughing to prevent germs from spreading.

Pets On Campus - please make sure to keep dogs at a distance from students before and after school, as some students are allergic and some might be fearful of animals.  Also, please pick up after pets; we unfortunately have had dog feces on the school property where students walk to car pick-up, as this is a safety hazard.
